Gaming’s Top 10

Gaming’s top ten Worst Characters

10) Raiden (Metal Gear Solid 2)

Remember as we anxiously waited for the release of Metal Gear Solid 2. Remember playing through the first third of the game and enjoying the banter between Snake and Octacon. Those were good times, however they didn't last once you reached the tanker area and your character removes his mask to reveal Raiden. Everyone desperately wanted to play the sequel to what is arguably the best game on the original PlayStation. It's true that the stealth mechanics of the game were still groundbreaking at the time but the battle-weary snake helped make the story all the more believable and enjoyable. Raiden looked too much like a reject from a Japanese RPG and while I realize that Kojima may have been trying to create a character that was more appealing to the Japanese Market, Raiden just didn't seem to fit in with the tone of the game.

Moreover you have a character that is supposed to be extensively trained for terrorist situations like this and yet he seems to handle the whole situation rather poorly. Raiden appears to be more of a whiner than a soldier and even though his training comes mainly from VR, you would think he would have some military grade discipline similar to any soldier who has spent time in boot camp. Aside from the VR training he has spent time on an actually battlefield as a child, which should make him even more hardened for the battlefield. While the gameplay remains intact I just wish you had more time to spend with Snake especially after playing through the thrilling opening act. Perhaps due to the lack of Snake is why they later created MGS 2: Substance, however by that time the damage was done and we still had to deal with Raiden.

Everyone remembers Mario and Sonic because they are some of the best characters in gaming. Unfortunately there are also some gaming characters who are memorable for all of the wrong reasons. Maybe they are memorable because they are annoying to us or maybe they don't control well, or maybe we simply hate their character design. For whatever reason they are deserving of our hate and the following is a list of the characters that we love to hate:
