Gaming’s Top 10

Gaming’s top ten Locations

10) The Vale (Prince of Persia)

One of the first locations I thought about when creating this list was “The Vale” from the new Prince of Persia series. All of the environments in this game are beautiful once you cleanse the land of evil similar to what is done in Okami. A huge part of the appeal of the game is seeing what the next area looks likes after it is cleansed, however even before it is cleansed you usually have some sense of what the land will be like. The Royal Palace will look like a Palace and the Windmills of the Ruined Citadel will look like cleaned up windmills. The Vale was different because when the area is corrupted you do not get a good sense of the land underneath you.

The gameplay in the Vale, like many of the locations in Prince of Persia, takes place at high altitudes and once you cleanse the land you finally get to see what was hidden under all of that black ooze. Cascading waterfalls that empty into a large lake, intricate canyons with lush greenery, and strange balloons all fill the area. The scenery really does make you want to find the nearest lookout point and simply stare at the ground underneath you. Speaking of which, there is a good lookout point near the fertile ground in the area known as the Machinery Ground. The Vale looks almost real and its enchanting view may make you wish such a place did exist.

With the jump to 3D, games now offer an endless assortment new visual elements to entertain us while we play. While these elements may not effect the core gameplay they do help to better bring us into the world crafted by the game. Most of the time these game worlds are wonderfully cartoony or amazingly realistic, but rarely are they memorable. Sometimes, however, you come across a level or area that makes you stop shooting and jumping and start admiring the world around you. While games today may have more visual effect, this list contains the game worlds that the most memorable regardless of graphics.
