10) Kid Chameleon For the most part, Kid Chameleon is somewhat of a knockoff of Super Mario Bros 3. The costume change play mechanic and the busting of power blocks will definitely remind you of the Mario series. Initially your character can only run and jump on enemies to dispatch them. However throughout each level you can find various mask hidden inside power blocks that will allow your character to gain additional abilities similar to the costume change mechanic in SMB 3. These costumes changes may allow you to throw a weapon, climb walls, or momentarily fly. Additionally much like SMB 3 there are numerous secrets to be found making your route to the final level different every time you play the game. What makes the game slightly different from Mario is that there is simply more of everything; there are more levels, more secrets and more costume changes. Also the game does a good job copying the gameplay elements from Mario instead of simply being a half-hearted attempt. In the end who cares if Kid Chameleon takes a lot of inspiration from Mario, especially when it is so well done. |

The yang to Nintendo’s yin, Sega and Nintendo have had the biggest rivalry in gaming history during the 16-bit era. While many may debate whether the Genesis was better than the SNES or vice versa, the truth of the matter was that both systems were great and those who chose to stay with only one camp missed out on many great games. In fact the reason why so many great new franchises debuted during this era is probably due to that rivalry and always trying to “one up” your opponent. Regardless the Genesis had an amazing library of both first and third party games and the following is just a small list of some of those titles. |
